Jira Product Discovery: Archive stale ideas
Archive stale Jira Product Discovery ideas by selecting them in a view and choosing Archive from the floating action bar.
Archived ideas can be recovered through the space’s View archived ideas list. Use archive for backlog hygiene when the evidence may be useful again, rather than deleting research to make the active list look smaller.
Step-by-step guide
Define stale in terms of the workflow
For example, review ideas with no current owner or supporting work, then read their descriptions and evidence before acting. Age alone does not make a customer problem irrelevant. Confirm that an apparently inactive idea is not waiting on an active dependency.
Select the reviewed ideas
Open a focused view and select the ideas approved for archiving. Inspect the selected titles and any filters so a bulk selection does not include an active experiment. Keep a short note of the review decision outside the selection UI when needed.
Archive through the action bar
Choose Archive on the floating dark bar at the bottom of the view. This removes the ideas from the active working set without treating them as permanently deleted. Do not use deletion when the intended outcome is reversible backlog cleanup.
Check retrieval before closing the review
Open the space name’s More actions → View archived ideas and locate a representative item. If it needs to return, select it and Restore. Tell collaborators where archived material lives so they do not recreate the same unsupported idea later.
Common mistakes
Using archiving as a substitute for a decision
Document why an idea is no longer active. A clean list is less useful when the team cannot explain what happened to customer feedback.
