Automate a Status Transition in Fibery
Use an Automation Rule triggered by a workflow update, filter the target state, and add an Update action for the intended result.
Before you start: Have Architect access to the Space and a Feature database with State and an assignee field. No-code configuration differs from Admin-only script actions.
Worked example: When a Feature enters Ready for review, assign its review owner. A change to the description alone should not keep reassigning it after someone else takes responsibility.
Step-by-step guide
Name the transition
Document the source and destination states and the one field that should change. Keep the first rule limited to this transition.
Create the rule
Expand the database in Space configuration, find Automation Rules and click +. Configure a Feature Updated trigger scoped to the State field.
Filter the destination
Require State to equal Ready for review. If the previous state matters, use the previous-value filter with exactly one changed field subscribed.
Add the result
Use an Update action to set the review assignee. Check the chosen field exists in this database rather than a similarly named template database.
Exercise both cases
Move a sample Feature into the state, then edit only its description. Inspect the rule’s Activity tab and the resulting owner before enabling broad use.
Common mistakes
Subscribing to every update
A broad trigger can repeat actions after unrelated edits. Subscribe to the field that actually defines this transition.
