Publish a Plane Project as a Public Board
Choose Publish project from a Plane project menu to create a web-accessible board. This is different from setting a project’s workspace network to Public.
Only a Project Admin can publish an unarchived project they belong to. Review descriptions and public comments before publishing because anyone with the resulting link can read the board.
Example: publish a deliberately curated customer roadmap project with List and Board layouts, leaving internal investigation notes in private project work.
Step-by-step guide
Audit the public content
Read the project’s work-item titles and descriptions and remove information that should not be public. Do not rely on an unguessable URL as the access boundary.
Open the publishing dialog
Use the project sidebar menu and select Publish project. Choose at least one available layout, such as List or Board; additional layouts depend on workspace availability.
Set participation deliberately
Choose whether public visitors may comment, react or vote. These options start off; enable only the interactions the team is prepared to review and maintain.
Publish and verify signed out
Click Publish, copy the generated link and open it without workspace access. Inspect the visible content and return to Publish project > Update settings if a layout or interaction needs adjustment.
Common mistakes
Confusing workspace Public with web publishing
Public project network allows workspace members to join. Publish project creates an internet-accessible board with a separate public URL.
