Configure Jira Board Quick Filters
Add a board quick filter that narrows the board existing issue set. It cannot reveal issues excluded by the base board filter or by your permissions.
Step-by-step guide
Check access and scope
For company-managed boards you need board administration access. Team-managed boards use their own custom-filter controls, and labels can vary during Jira interface updates.
Check the board type
Confirm the board type and inspect its base filter.
Open filter configuration
Open board configuration and its quick or custom filters.
- Worked example: Use assignee = currentUser() AND resolution = Unresolved for an ownership review when those conditions match your workflow. Keep a separate condition for unassigned work so it is not silently excluded.
Write focused JQL
Give the filter a specific name and write focused JQL.
Test a known match
Test the JQL with a known matching issue.
Apply the board filter
Apply the filter on the board and compare its visible scope.
Verify the result
The matching issue remains visible and an issue outside the criteria disappears without changing either record.
Common mistakes
Check the handoff edge case
Testing JQL only in global search can miss the board base-filter interaction. Test the actual board after saving.
