Configure Jira Product Discovery contributor access in Space settings → Access, then enable the specific contribution features the team needs.
Contributor permissions differ from creator permissions. Use a Limited or Private space on a paid plan when you need controlled participation rather than giving every stakeholder creator privileges.
Step-by-step guide
Decide who can enter the space
As a space admin, inspect the current access level under the space’s More actions → Space settings → Access. Open, Limited and Private have different defaults. The Free plan does not allow changing this space access level.
Set the access level and roles
Choose Change space access and select the intended level. For example, Limited lets site users participate as contributors while selected creators manage the backlog. Review explicit role grants too: a more generous inherited or assigned permission can defeat an intended restriction.
Enable contributor idea submission deliberately
If stakeholders should submit ideas, open Space settings → Features → Create ideas → Allow contributors to create ideas. Choose all or specific work types. Contributors cannot create ideas by default, so granting contributor access alone does not enable that action.
Preview and test intake
As an admin, use + Create → Configure form to select the fields and description template for each enabled type. Preview the contributor form and check a representative stakeholder can submit the intended information without receiving broader administration permissions.

First check the contribution feature and role settings. A missing create-idea permission does not necessarily require full creator access.
