Export Asana Projects to CSV
Export a project snapshot for analysis, then verify the columns and row scope. A CSV is useful for review but does not preserve every aspect of live project collaboration.
Step-by-step guide
Check access and scope
You need access to the project and permission to export. Decide how the downloaded data should be stored and who may receive it.
Record export scope
Open the project and note the intended export scope.
Choose CSV export
Use the project menu export option and choose CSV.
- Worked example: For a launch review, inspect task name, assignee, due date, completion state and important custom fields. Add a resource index for documents whose contents are not in the rows.
Inspect columns and dates
Open the file and inspect field names and date interpretation.
Compare sample tasks
Compare representative tasks with the live project.
Label the snapshot
Store the file with a snapshot time and project link.
Verify the result
The recipient can identify the snapshot scope and sample rows match the project at the recorded time.
Common mistakes
Avoid the main failure mode
Reimporting a modified export is not automatically a safe synchronization method. Keep analytical edits separate from operational changes.
Check the handoff edge case
Sending exported tasks outside the project audience can disclose private details. Review the recipient and file contents before sharing.
