How to link pages to database entries in Confluence
Connect a Confluence database entry to a document with a Page or live doc link field, rather than a generic text URL.
This field can select existing content or create new content when page creation is enabled. For an initiative tracker, use one linked brief to preserve the reasoning behind each compact database row.
Step-by-step guide
Add the correct field type
Switch the database to Table layout, select + in the top right, and choose Page or live doc link. Name it Brief. A generic Link field is better for external URLs; the page-link type provides Confluence-specific creation and metadata behavior.
Choose whether new pages may be created
Edit the field and enable page creation only if that is part of the team’s workflow. Configure the Parent item and Initial content, choosing an empty document, a database entry summary or a template. Check the parent before creating many documents.
Link a representative entry
For “Workspace onboarding,” select its existing research brief in the field, or create the brief using the configured field. Use multiple selection only when several source documents belong to one entry and the relationship remains clear to reviewers.
Validate the link as a collaborator
Open the brief from the database entry and confirm it is the intended document under the correct parent. Check with a representative teammate that access works. Maintain detailed evidence in the brief instead of copying its text into a second database field.
Common mistakes
Using one field for internal and external source types
Use Page or live doc link for Confluence content and Link for outside URLs so each relationship has the appropriate controls.
