Multi-Home Tasks in Asana
Add one task to multiple projects when the same work needs more than one view. Updates remain attached to the same task, so multi-homing avoids manually synchronizing duplicate copies.
Step-by-step guide
Check access and scope
You need access to the task and destination project. Review destination permissions because adding the task can broaden access.
Open the existing task
Open the existing task rather than duplicating it.
Add the destination project
Use its Projects field to add the destination project. In the task Projects field, use Add to projects or Tab P; this adds another location for the same task rather than duplicating it.
- Worked example: Add the security review task to both Release readiness and Security queue. The reviewer keeps one assignment, while the release owner sees the same decision and comments.
Choose a destination section
Place the task in the appropriate destination section.
Compare both project views
Inspect owner, due date and fields from both project contexts.
Review effective permissions
Review access and confirm a single shared completion state.
Verify the result
A comment or date change made from either project appears on the same task in the other.
Common mistakes
Check the handoff edge case
Removing a task from one project does not necessarily make it private if it remains in another shared project. Audit the remaining access paths.
