How to restrict a page in Confluence
Restrict a Confluence page through Share → General access → Restricted, then explicitly add the people or groups allowed to view or edit.
Content restrictions are unavailable on the Free plan. In Cloud’s current sharing interface, restricting editing and restricting viewing are separate choices; decide which one your review actually needs.
Step-by-step guide
Check the audience and authority
Open Share on the page and inspect General access, including any inherited parent restriction. Confirm you can manage the item’s restrictions. For a confidential pricing review, list the actual reviewers before changing access so someone still owns the review.
Select the right restriction
Set General access to Restricted when only named people should view the page. If the whole space should read it but only reviewers should edit, use the Open state allowing anyone in the space to view, then grant specific editors.
Add named people or groups
Under Specific access, search for reviewers and choose Can view or Can edit as needed. Save the change. Content-level permissions cannot grant access that the space denies, so resolve missing space access separately.
Check a child and an excluded reader
Ask one intended reviewer and one excluded user to open the page. Review descendants too: view restrictions inherit down the tree, but page-level editing restrictions do not. Treat any enabled public link as a separate sharing decision.
Common mistakes
Locking a parent’s editing only
That does not automatically restrict editing on children. Review each child’s edit settings when the whole branch needs protection.
