How to transfer page ownership in Confluence
Transfer a Confluence page by selecting its owner below the title, choosing Change owner, and selecting an eligible editor.
This changes the responsible person; it does not revoke your editing access. Use this Cloud workflow when handing a launch checklist from its author to the PM now running the release.
Step-by-step guide
Identify the actual owner
Open the published launch checklist and inspect the owner below its title. Ownership and authorship are different: the original creator remains part of the content history after a handoff. Confirm the outgoing owner or an administrator is available to transfer it.
Check the recipient before changing ownership
The incoming owner needs access to the space and edit access to this item. For example, add the release PM to the appropriate space and page access before searching for them. A person who cannot edit is not an eligible handoff recipient.
Transfer through the owner control
Select the owner avatar and name below the title, then Change owner. Search by the PM’s name or email, verify the account, and select Change owner to confirm. The Details panel also exposes the owner control.
Close the responsibility handoff
Ask the recipient to open the checklist and check the displayed owner. Add a short handoff note identifying the next review and outstanding questions. The former owner retains editing access but cannot simply take ownership back unless also an admin.
Common mistakes
Using a blog handoff
This ownership transfer does not apply to blogs or space overview pages. Do not promise the same control on those content types.
