How to Connect Linear to Vantage: Step-by-Step Guide
Connecting Linear to Vantage takes under two minutes. Once connected, every ticket in your selected Linear projects syncs to Vantage automatically, giving you two-way updates, sprint velocity data in your decision context, and the ability to generate Linear issues directly from grounded PRDs. The integration uses OAuth, so you never share your Linear password with Vantage. You control which projects sync, which direction data flows, and you review the changes before any write operation touches your Linear workspace.
This guide walks you through the full setup: prerequisites, the six-step connection flow, configuration options, and troubleshooting. Whether you are connecting a single project or syncing an entire workspace, the process is the same.
Prerequisites
Before you start, make sure you have the following:
- A Vantage account on any plan (Free, Pro at $19/seat/mo, or Business at $59/seat/mo). The Linear integration is available on all plans.
- A Linear workspace where you have member-level access or higher. If you want to sync all projects across the organization, use an admin or owner account.
- A modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge). The OAuth flow opens a popup window, so make sure popups are not blocked for app.vantageos.tech.
Connect Linear in 6 steps
Open the Integrations page in Vantage
Log in to your Vantage workspace at app.vantageos.tech. In the left sidebar, click Settings, then select Integrations from the settings menu. This opens the integrations catalog where every available connector is listed, including Linear, Jira, GitHub, Figma, Slack, and Amplitude.
Find and select Linear
In the integrations catalog, locate the Linear card. You can use the search bar at the top to filter by name. Click the Connect button on the card. Vantage displays a summary of the permissions it will request from Linear, including read access to issues, projects, teams, and cycles, plus write access for two-way sync. Review these scopes before proceeding.
Authorize via OAuth
Click Authorizeto open Linear's OAuth consent screen in a new window. Linear shows you the exact scopes Vantage is requesting. Click Allow Access to grant permission. You are redirected back to Vantage automatically once authorization completes. Your Linear password is never shared with Vantage. The entire flow uses industry-standard OAuth 2.0 tokens.
Select projects to sync
After authorization, Vantage lists every project in your Linear workspace. Check the projects you want to sync. You can select individual projects or use the Select All toggle to sync your entire workspace. This selection is not permanent. You can add or remove projects later from the integration settings without disconnecting or re-authorizing.
Configure sync settings
Vantage shows a configuration panel with three options. Sync direction controls whether data flows both ways, only from Vantage to Linear, or only from Linear to Vantage. Most teams use two-way. State mapping lets you map Linear workflow states (Backlog, Todo, In Progress, Done, Cancelled) to Vantage stages. Sync frequency sets how often Vantage polls for changes. Options are real-time (webhook-based), every 5 minutes, or every 15 minutes. The defaults work well for most teams, so you can skip this step and adjust later.
Verify the connection
Vantage runs a test sync and displays the result on screen. You should see a sample ticket from one of your selected projects appear with its title, status, assignee, and labels intact. If the test passes, click Done to finish setup. Your Linear data begins indexing in the background. Most workspaces finish initial indexing within a few minutes. You will see a notification in Vantage when indexing is complete and your tickets are ready to use in decisions, PRDs, and conflict detection.
Configuration options
After the initial setup, you can fine-tune how Linear and Vantage work together. All of these settings are accessible from Settings > Integrations > Linear in your Vantage workspace.
Sync direction
Choose two-way sync, Vantage-to-Linear only, or Linear-to-Vantage only. Two-way is the default and recommended setting. One-way modes are useful when you want Vantage to read Linear data without writing back, or vice versa.
State mapping
Map each Linear workflow state to a Vantage stage. Vantage pre-fills sensible defaults (e.g., "In Progress" maps to "Active"), but you can customize the mapping to match your team's workflow.
Sync frequency
Choose real-time (webhook-based, recommended), every 5 minutes, or every 15 minutes. Real-time sync uses Linear webhooks so changes appear in Vantage within seconds.
Project selection
Add or remove projects from the sync at any time. Newly added projects index automatically. Removing a project stops syncing but does not delete previously indexed data from Vantage.
Field mapping
Control which Linear fields sync to Vantage. By default, title, description, status, priority, assignee, labels, and cycle data all sync. You can exclude specific fields if needed.
Notification preferences
Configure whether Vantage sends notifications when sync conflicts occur, when tickets are auto-updated from requirement changes, or when new issues are generated from PRDs.
Troubleshooting
Most connections complete without issues. If you run into a problem, check these common scenarios before reaching out to support.
OAuth popup is blocked
Your browser is blocking the Linear authorization popup. Allow popups for app.vantageos.tech in your browser settings, then click Connect again. In Chrome, look for the blocked-popup icon in the address bar. In Safari, go to Preferences > Websites > Pop-up Windows and set app.vantageos.tech to Allow.
Only some projects appear in the selector
Vantage can only see projects your Linear account has access to. If you are a member of a subset of teams, only those teams' projects appear. Ask a Linear admin to grant you access to additional teams, or have an admin connect the integration so all projects are visible.
Test sync fails with a permissions error
This usually means the OAuth token was created with insufficient scopes. Disconnect the integration from Settings > Integrations > Linear, then reconnect. During the OAuth flow, make sure you click Allow Access on all requested scopes. If you previously denied a scope, Linear may cache that decision. Revoke Vantage from Linear's authorized applications list first, then reconnect.
Tickets are not syncing after initial setup
Check the sync status indicator on the Linear integration card in Vantage. If it shows "Indexing," the initial sync is still in progress. Large workspaces with thousands of tickets can take up to 10 minutes. If it shows "Error," click the status to see the error details. Common causes include expired OAuth tokens (reconnect to fix) and Linear API rate limits (wait a few minutes and retry).
