What Is Continuous Discovery? | Vantage
Continuous Discovery Continuous discovery is the practice of conducting user research, customer interviews, and assumption testing on an ongoing basis throughout the product development cycle, not just at the beginning. It was popularized by Teresa Torres and emphasizes weekly touchpoints with customers.
Why continuous discovery matters
Traditional product development front-loads research and then builds for months without customer input. Continuous discovery reduces the risk of building the wrong thing by validating assumptions every week. It creates a tight feedback loop between what you learn and what you build.
How it works
The core practice is weekly customer interviews (15-30 minutes each) combined with assumption mapping. For each product opportunity, map the assumptions you are making and test the riskiest ones first. Use interviews, prototype testing, and data analysis to validate or invalidate assumptions.
Common mistakes
Only talking to customers who love your product
Not testing risky assumptions first
Conflating customer requests with customer needs
Not connecting discovery insights to product decisions
Treating continuous discovery as optional rather than a core practice

How Vantage relates
Vantage lets you add research insights as context sources when creating a project. Interview transcripts, survey results, and user quotes become part of the data that grounds PRD generation. This means your specs are informed by continuous discovery rather than disconnected from it.
