What Is Discovery Cadence? | Vantage
Discovery Cadence Discovery cadence is the regular, ongoing rhythm at which a product team conducts customer research, tests assumptions, and validates product ideas. Unlike project-based research (a one-time study before building), discovery cadence means the team is always learning: weekly customer conversations, regular prototype tests, and ongoing data analysis.
Why discovery cadence matters
Teams without a discovery cadence build features based on stale assumptions. Markets change, user needs evolve, and competitors move. A regular discovery rhythm keeps the team connected to reality and reduces the risk of building the wrong thing.
How it works
Establish a weekly rhythm: 2-3 customer conversations per week, assumption mapping per initiative, and monthly synthesis of what the team has learned. Discovery happens in parallel with delivery, not as a separate phase. The product trio participates in discovery activities together.
Common mistakes
Treating discovery as a phase that happens before building
Not maintaining the cadence during busy delivery periods
Only talking to customers who are happy with the product
Doing discovery but not connecting insights to product decisions

How Vantage relates
Vantage ingests discovery artifacts (interview transcripts, research documents, analytics data) as context sources for PRD generation. This creates a direct pipeline from discovery insights to product specs, ensuring specs are grounded in recent customer learning.
