What Is Feature Parity? | Vantage
Feature Parity Feature parity means achieving the same set of features as a reference product: either a competitor or a previous version of your own product (common in rewrites and migrations). True feature parity means users can accomplish the same tasks with the same or better experience.
Why feature parity matters
Feature parity is critical during product migrations (v1 to v2 rewrites) and competitive positioning. Users resist switching to a product that lacks features they depend on. However, blindly chasing parity with competitors leads to copycat products without differentiation.
How it works
Create a feature comparison matrix listing every feature in the reference product. Categorize each: Must Have (users cannot migrate without it), Nice to Have (users want it but can live without), and Skip (feature that was rarely used or poorly designed). Prioritize Must Haves first, then selectively add Nice to Haves that align with your product strategy.
Common mistakes
Copying every feature without evaluating its value
Achieving parity without improving the experience
Spending too long on parity and never differentiating
Not measuring which features users actually use in the reference product

How Vantage relates
Vantage lets you add competitor product pages and feature lists as context sources. When generating a PRD for a parity feature, the AI grounds the spec in the competitor reference while adding improvements specific to your product.
