What Is Product Analytics? | Vantage
Product Analytics Product analytics is the practice of collecting, measuring, and analyzing data about how users interact with a product. It goes beyond web analytics (page views, sessions) to track product-specific behaviors: feature usage, conversion funnels, retention curves, and user journeys. Product analytics answers "what are users doing?" and "why are they doing it?"
Why product analytics matters
Product analytics replaces opinion with evidence. Instead of debating whether users want a feature, analytics shows whether they use it. Instead of guessing why users churn, analytics reveals the behavioral patterns that predict churn. Data-informed product decisions lead to better outcomes.
How it works
Instrument key user actions as events (sign up, create project, generate PRD, export). Analyze patterns: funnels (where do users drop off?), cohorts (do recent users behave differently?), retention (do users come back?), and feature adoption (what percentage uses each feature?). Use insights to prioritize features that improve key metrics.
Common mistakes
Tracking everything without a framework (creates data noise)
Using only vanity metrics (total users) instead of engagement metrics (active users)
Not connecting analytics to product decisions
Analysis paralysis (spending more time analyzing than building)

How Vantage relates
Vantage connects to your analytics data and makes it part of the PM workflow. When creating a project, analytics context (metrics, funnels, retention data) grounds the PRD generation. The Analytics tab lets PMs query metrics in natural language.
