Bugs in fintech products can cause financial losses, regulatory violations, and customer trust erosion. Every fintech bug report must assess financial impact and determine if the bug constitutes a reportable incident.
This template adds financial impact assessment and regulatory classification to the standard bug report.

Financial Impact Assessment
Assess the financial impact: Total exposure (maximum possible financial impact if the bug is exploited or persists), Actual impact (confirmed financial impact so far), Affected accounts (count and value), and Recovery method (automatic reversal, manual correction, or customer communication needed).
Transaction Integrity
Check transaction integrity: Are ledger entries balanced (debits = credits)? Are any transactions in an inconsistent state (partially completed)? Is the reconciliation process affected? Document any transactions that need manual review or correction.
Regulatory Classification
Classify the bug for regulatory purposes: Is this a material error (affects financial reporting)? Does it affect transaction limits or AML controls? Could it constitute a regulatory violation? If yes to any, escalate to the compliance team immediately.
Customer Communication
Determine if customers need to be notified: Was customer money affected? Was customer data exposed? Were customers overcharged or undercharged? Draft customer communication for review if notification is needed.
