Template sections
4 sections covering the complete release notes workflow.
Linear Project as Release
Create a Linear Project for each release. Add all issues planned for the release to the project. The project progress bar and status page give you a real-time view of release readiness. Mark the project complete when the release ships.
Changelog Entry
Use Linear changelogs (accessible in the sidebar) to write release notes. Linear can auto-generate a changelog entry from completed issues in a project. Edit the generated content to focus on user-facing changes and benefits.
GitHub Integration
With the Linear-GitHub integration, merged PRs automatically move linked issues to Done. Tag releases in GitHub and link them to Linear projects. The integration creates a traceable path from issue to PR to release.
Release Note Format
Structure each release note with: Version/Date header, 2-3 sentence summary, New Features section, Improvements section, and Bug Fixes section. Focus on user outcomes, not implementation details. Include screenshots for visual changes.
