Retrospective Template for Confluence (2026)
Confluence is the natural home for retrospective documentation, especially for teams already using the Atlassian stack. This template uses Confluence blueprints and Jira macros to create traceable, data-driven retrospectives.

Confluence Blueprint
Use the built-in Retrospective blueprint (Create > Retrospective). It provides a pre-structured page with "What went well," "What needs improvement," and "Action items" sections. Customize the blueprint to add sprint metrics and Jira macros.
Jira Sprint Data
Embed live Jira data using the Jira Issues macro. Insert a JQL query showing the sprint backlog: "sprint = [Sprint Name] ORDER BY status." Add a Jira Chart macro for the burndown. This grounds the retrospective in real sprint data.
Collaborative Editing
Use Confluence inline comments for asynchronous retro contributions before the meeting. Team members add comments to each section, then the facilitator summarizes during the live session. This works well for distributed teams across time zones.
Action Item Table
Create a table with columns: Action, Owner, Due Date, Jira Ticket, Status. Use the Jira Issue macro to embed linked action item tickets. The table updates automatically as tickets progress in Jira, so you always see current status.
Historical Analysis
Tag each retro page with sprint number and quarter labels. Use Confluence page labels to find all retrospectives. Over time, search for recurring themes across retros to identify systemic issues that need larger interventions.
