Create a Plan in Jira Advanced Roadmaps. Add your Jira projects as plan sources. Set the planning increment (quarterly). Configure team capacity and sprint cadence. Advanced Roadmaps pulls epics and stories from your Jira projects and visualizes them on a timeline.
Epic-Level Planning
Use epics as roadmap items. Set start and end dates on epics for timeline visualization. Add dependencies between epics using the dependency feature. Advanced Roadmaps shows dependency conflicts when epics are rescheduled, preventing planning errors.
Capacity Management
Configure team capacity in the plan: team members, velocity per sprint, and available hours. Advanced Roadmaps auto-schedules stories within epics based on team capacity. The capacity view highlights over-allocated teams in red.
Scenario Planning
Use the Scenarios feature to compare roadmap alternatives. Create multiple scenarios: "Ship feature A first" vs. "Ship feature B first." Each scenario shows the timeline impact without changing the live plan.
Stakeholder View
Create a read-only view for stakeholders using the Share feature. Filter to show only epics (hide stories). Stakeholders see the timeline, dependencies, and progress without access to detailed engineering work.
