Sprint Planning Template: Linear for Fintech Teams

Linear is the fastest issue tracker, but fintech teams need compliance controls that Linear does not provide out of the box. This template adds compliance layers using Linear labels, custom views, and automation rules.

Use Linear Cycles as compliance-aware sprints that maintain Linear speed while satisfying regulatory requirements.

Template sections

4 sections covering the complete sprint planning workflow.

01

Linear Labels for Compliance

Create Linear labels: compliance-review (yellow), pci-relevant (red), sox-audit (orange), and security-classified (purple). Apply labels during backlog grooming. Create a saved filter view showing all compliance-labeled issues for the compliance team.

02

Compliance-Aware Cycle Planning

During cycle planning in Linear, filter the backlog by compliance labels. Ensure compliance-review stories are assigned to developers who have completed security training. Add a sub-issue for compliance sign-off on each compliance-labeled parent issue.

03

Audit Trail via Linear API

Use the Linear API to export cycle history for SOX audits. Script a weekly export of: issues completed, status transitions with timestamps, assignee changes, and comments. Store exports in your compliance documentation system.

04

Security Estimation

Use Linear estimate points with a fintech multiplier: stories touching payment flows get 1.5x base estimate. Track this in the issue description header: Base: 3 pts, Security overhead: +2 pts, Total: 5 pts.
