Triage Before Planning
Process all Triage items before cycle planning. Each item gets: assigned to a team, estimated, and prioritized. Items without clear scope go to the Backlog with a needs-spec label. The goal is zero items in Triage at cycle start.
Cycle Capacity from Velocity
Pull the last 3 cycle velocities from Linear Insights. Average them and plan at 75%. Account for team availability (PTO, on-call rotation). In Linear, set the cycle scope to match your capacity target.
SaaS Priority Framework
Prioritize cycle items using SaaS-specific criteria: P0 (production incidents, security), P1 (customer-blocking, revenue-impacting), P2 (feature work on roadmap), P3 (improvements, tech debt). Linear priority levels map directly to this framework.
GitHub Integration Setup
Link Linear issues to GitHub PRs. When a PR merges, Linear auto-transitions the issue. When it deploys (via GitHub Actions), mark the issue Done. This creates a fully automated deployment pipeline visible in Linear.
Cycle Retrospective
Use Linear Insights at cycle end: completed vs planned scope, cycle time distribution, and carry-over issues. Document one improvement action for the next cycle.
