Sprint Database Setup
Create a Notion database called Sprints with properties: Sprint Number (number), Goal (text), Start Date, End Date, Status (Not Started/Active/Complete), and Velocity (number). Each sprint is a row. Use a board view grouped by Status for visual tracking.
Task Database with Sprint Relation
Create a Tasks database with: Title, Status (To Do/In Progress/Done), Priority (P0-P3), Estimate (number), Assignee (person), and Sprint (relation to Sprints database). Use a board view filtered by the active sprint to create your sprint board.
Async Sprint Planning
For small startup teams, run async sprint planning: PM sets the sprint goal and populates candidate tasks 24 hours before planning. Team members comment on estimates and flag concerns async. A 15-minute sync call finalizes the sprint scope.
Notion Formula for Velocity
Use a rollup property on the Sprints database that sums the Estimate field of related Done tasks. This automatically calculates velocity per sprint. Add a formula property showing planned vs actual points.
