Create a dedicated Asana project for each sprint or use sections within a single project to separate sprint iterations.

Template sections

5 sections covering the complete sprint planning workflow.

01

Project Structure

Create an Asana project with sections for Backlog, Current Sprint, In Progress, Review, and Done. Add custom fields for Story Points (number), Sprint (dropdown), and Priority (dropdown). Enable Board view for Kanban-style tracking during the sprint.

02

Sprint Goal

Add the sprint goal as the project description or as a milestone task at the top of the Current Sprint section. Milestones in Asana are visually distinct and appear on the Timeline view.

03

Workload Management

Use Asana Workload (Business/Enterprise plan) to visualize team capacity. Set effort fields on tasks and capacity limits per team member. The Workload view shows a heatmap of over- and under-allocated team members.

04

Sprint Execution

Use Asana Rules to automate status transitions. Create a rule: "When task moved to Done section, mark complete." Use the Board view for daily standups and the Timeline view for dependency tracking.

05

Retrospective

Create a retrospective task template with subtasks for What Went Well, What to Improve, and Action Items. Use Asana Forms to collect anonymous team feedback before the retro meeting.
