Database Setup
Create two linked databases: Backlog (tasks) and Sprints. The Backlog database has properties: Title, Story Points (number), Status (select: To Do/In Progress/Review/Done), Sprint (relation to Sprints DB), Assignee (person), and Priority (select). The Sprints database has: Sprint Name, Start Date, End Date, Goal (text), and Capacity (number).
Sprint Views
Create a Board view of the Backlog filtered by the current sprint for daily standups. Create a Table view sorted by Priority for sprint planning. Create a Calendar view for timeline visibility. Use Notion formulas to calculate sprint progress from completed story points.
Sprint Planning Flow
During planning, open the Backlog Table view filtered to Priority = High and Sprint = empty. Drag items into the current sprint by setting the Sprint relation. Watch the sprint capacity formula update in real time. Stop adding when you reach 80% capacity.
Velocity Tracking
Add a rollup property on the Sprints database that sums completed story points from linked backlog items. Over multiple sprints, this creates a velocity history. Use Notion charts or export the data for velocity trend analysis.
Retrospective Page
Create a retrospective page template linked to each Sprint entry. Include sections for sprint metrics (from the rollup properties), what went well, what to improve, and action items. Link action item tasks back to the backlog.
