Use Case

AI Requirement Extraction

Extract structured, prioritized requirements from any PRD. Each requirement links to its source data and is ready for ticket generation. No manual breakdown needed.

The problem

PRDs describe what to build in prose. Engineering needs structured requirements with clear scope, priority, and acceptance criteria. The translation from prose to structured requirements is manual, time-consuming, and error-prone. PMs read through multi-page documents, identify each discrete requirement, assign a priority, and write it up as a separate item. Important requirements get missed. Edge cases mentioned in the PRD do not make it into the requirements list.

Once extracted, requirements quickly diverge from the PRD. The PM updates a section of the spec but forgets to update the corresponding requirement. Or a stakeholder questions a requirement and the PM cannot quickly trace it back to the PRD section and data source that justified it. The requirements list becomes its own artifact, disconnected from the document it came from.

How Vantage solves it

Automatic extraction from PRDs

Vantage analyzes your PRD and extracts discrete requirements automatically. Each requirement gets a unique ID (R1, R2, R3...), a description derived from the relevant PRD section, and a citation linking to the source data. Edge cases, error states, and non-functional requirements are captured alongside the happy path.

Priority and effort assignment

Extracted requirements come with suggested priorities (P0 through P3) and effort estimates based on the complexity described in the PRD. You can adjust these during grooming sessions with the full product context visible alongside each requirement.

Traceability to sources

Each requirement links to the PRD section and the original data source (Slack thread, analytics data, Figma screen) that justified it. When a stakeholder asks “why is this a requirement?” the answer is one click away.

Live connection to the PRD

When the PRD changes, affected requirements are flagged. When requirements are updated, the PRD relationship is preserved. The requirements list never silently drifts from the document it was derived from.

Who it is for

  • PMs who want to go from PRD to structured requirements without manual breakdown.
  • Engineering leads who need requirements with clear scope and acceptance criteria.
  • Teams in regulated industries where requirement traceability is audited.
