Connect Shortcut Epics to Objectives and Key Results
Link Epics on a Shortcut Objective detail page to connect delivery work with a goal. Strategic Objectives can also align Epics to individual Key Results.
Tactical Objectives are available to all organizations. Strategic Objectives and their Key Results require Business or Enterprise. Choose the goal structure before linking work.
Example: connect Checkout reliability to a tactical Reduce payment failures objective; use a measured failure-rate Key Result only when the team actually maintains its current value.
Step-by-step guide
Open the actual goal
Open Objectives and select the intended Objective. Read its description and dates so a similarly named goal does not collect unrelated delivery work.
Add delivery Epics
On the Objective detail page, add the relevant Epics. For tactical delivery tracking, keep the alignment directly on the Objective rather than adding a measurement layer without data.
Align measured work when available
For an eligible Strategic Objective, open the relevant Key Result and use Add Epics. Confirm its starting, current and target values describe the outcome the Epic is intended to influence.
Inspect both progress measures
Keep Epic and Key Result progress visible in Table view. Hover to inspect delivery progress, health and measurement recency; completed Stories alone do not prove the target metric improved.
Common mistakes
Treating output as an outcome
Epic completion measures delivery. A Key Result needs its own maintained current value to describe customer or business impact.
