Roll Up Feature Evidence in Notion
Add a rollup over a feature-to-research relation to summarize linked evidence. The number is a count of linked records, not a count of independent customers or proof of impact.
Step-by-step guide
Check access and scope
A working relation between Features and Research is required. Agree on what one research record represents before counting it.
Inspect source relations
Check the Features relation contains the intended research records.
Create the rollup
Add a Rollup property and choose that relation.
- Worked example: A feature with four notes from one interview should not outrank another feature with three independent interviews solely because the first rollup is larger. Record participant identity separately where access allows.
Choose the count calculation
Select a populated source property and the appropriate count calculation. The selected relation, source property and calculation jointly define the result; test each choice with records whose expected count is known.
Record evidence quality
Create a separate source-quality or interpretation field.
Check empty and duplicate cases
Inspect a feature with duplicate notes and a feature with no evidence.
Verify the result
Adding one linked note changes the summary as expected and removing the relation reverses it.
Common mistakes
Avoid the main failure mode
A blank or unexpected count often reflects missing relations or an unsuitable source property. Investigate the records before changing the formula.
Check the handoff edge case
A higher evidence count may represent multiple notes from one interview. Keep participant context alongside aggregate counts.
