Restore Notion Page History
Use the page history controls to inspect an earlier version and restore intentionally. Availability and retained history depend on the current plan; do not assume all past edits are recoverable.
Step-by-step guide
Check access and scope
You need access to the page and its available history. Capture current important edits before restoring a larger previous version.
Open page history
Open the page menu and locate its history or previous versions. Open the page menu and Version history; at least Can edit access is needed to inspect available versions.
Find the earlier version
Identify the timestamp before the unwanted change.
- Worked example: If an approved scope paragraph disappears during editing, recover that paragraph without overwriting newer acceptance criteria unnecessarily. Keep a note explaining why the restored wording is authoritative.
Compare the changed section
Compare the affected section with current content.
Recover the required content
Copy needed material or restore the appropriate version. Copy selected blocks when only part of the old version is needed; a full database restore has different effects from restoring the contents of each record page.
Recheck related records
Recheck linked blocks and tell collaborators which content changed.
Verify the result
The missing material is present, intentional newer work remains, and collaborators can identify the current accepted version.
Common mistakes
Avoid the main failure mode
Restoring a page is not the same as rolling back every related database or external file. Review those objects separately.
Check the handoff edge case
Restoring an entire older page to recover one paragraph can discard useful later edits. Copy selected blocks when that is sufficient.
