How to Set Up a Product Feedback Loop in Slack

Most product feedback arrives in Slack before it lands anywhere else — in customer channels, support threads, and sales DMs. The problem is that feedback scattered across hundreds of channels never reaches the PM. A structured feedback loop turns Slack into a signal-capture system rather than a firehose.

This guide covers how to build a lightweight but systematic product feedback loop using Slack Workflow Builder, dedicated channels, and integrations with your PM tool.

Step-by-step guide

01

Create a dedicated feedback channel

Create a channel called #product-feedback or #pm-signals and invite PMs, CS leads, and sales leads. Pin a message explaining what belongs here: customer quotes, support escalations, feature requests with customer context. This becomes the intake queue for all non-engineering product signals.

02

Build a feedback submission workflow

Open Workflow Builder and create a form-based workflow in #product-feedback. Fields: Customer Name, Company, Plan Tier, Feedback Type (Bug / Feature Request / Confusion / Praise), Verbatim Quote, Urgency. When submitted, the workflow posts a formatted message to the channel. This standardizes feedback before it enters your system.

03

Connect to your PM tool

Install the Productboard, Linear, or Jira app in Slack. For any #product-feedback message, team members can use the message shortcut to create a tagged issue or feedback note directly in your PM tool. The Slack message link is attached automatically for context.

04

Set up weekly feedback digest

Use a Slack Workflow on a weekly schedule (e.g., every Monday at 9 AM) to post a prompt in #product-feedback asking the team to share the top 3 customer signals from the past week. Replies become the input for the PM's weekly prioritization review.

05

Triage feedback in a recurring meeting

Schedule a 30-minute weekly feedback triage. Review all #product-feedback messages from the past week. Cluster by theme. Map to existing roadmap items or flag as new signals. Close the loop by reacting with an emoji (eyes = seen, check = actioned, x = declining). Reactions show contributors their feedback was processed.

Common mistakes

Collecting feedback without acting on it

A #product-feedback channel that is never triaged destroys trust faster than not having one. If contributors see their feedback disappear into silence, they stop contributing. Triage every message within 48 hours, even if the action is "noted, not now."

No context attached to feedback

Feedback without context ("users want search") is useless. The workflow form exists to capture customer name, plan tier, and verbatim quote. Anonymous "someone wants X" cannot be weighted or prioritized.

Mixing internal opinions with customer signals

Internal team opinions and genuine customer feedback are different types of signals. Keep them in separate channels or use different tags. Mixing them dilutes the signal and leads to building what the team wants rather than what customers need.

Tips

Use Slack's "Save" feature to bookmark high-signal messages for your weekly triage

Add a monthly feedback theme report to your PM newsletter: "Top 3 feedback themes this month and what we are doing about them"

Connect Intercom or Zendesk to Slack so support tickets auto-post to #product-feedback for relevant tags
