Link Research and Features in Notion
Use a Relation property to connect research records to feature records. This creates structured references; it does not automatically determine which findings support a decision.
Step-by-step guide
Check access and scope
Create separate Research and Features databases with edit access to their structures. Use anonymized notes while checking the sharing model.
Create the feature relation
Create a Features relation property in Research and select the Features database. Add a property, choose Relation, select Features and confirm Add relation; choose actual records rather than pasting their titles into text.
Add the reverse relation
Enable the corresponding relation if readers need links in both directions. Enable Show on the destination database when two-way navigation is needed and name that reverse property clearly.
- Worked example: An interview about invite confusion links to the Invitation redesign feature. A second interview favoring existing behavior should also be linked and marked as contradictory evidence.
Connect source records
Connect each research record to the feature it informs.
Interpret the evidence
Add a short interpretation explaining support, contradiction or uncertainty.
Review from the feature
Open the feature and review the linked evidence before making a decision.
Verify the result
One sample link appears on the intended record and authorized feature reviewers can open its source.
Common mistakes
Avoid the main failure mode
Linking a record to a feature does not prove the feature solves the problem. Preserve interpretation and sample limitations.
Check the handoff edge case
Using only a URL property loses the reverse relationship. Use a relation when feature readers need to find supporting notes.
