How to Connect Notion to Vantage: Step-by-Step Guide

Connecting Notion to Vantage takes under two minutes and brings your team's documentation, product specs, meeting notes, and databases directly into your decision workflow. Once linked, Vantage imports the Notion pages and databases you select, making that knowledge available as context when you write PRDs, evaluate features, or resolve conflicting priorities. The integration uses Notion's official OAuth flow, so you pick exactly which pages to share and your Notion password is never exposed to Vantage. You control what gets imported, how often it syncs, and whether child pages are included automatically.

This guide walks you through the full setup: prerequisites, the six-step connection flow, configuration options, and troubleshooting. Whether you are importing a single spec document or syncing an entire knowledge base, the process is the same.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you have the following:

  • A Vantage account on any plan (Free, Pro at $19/seat/mo, or Business at $59/seat/mo). The Notion integration is available on all plans.
  • A Notion workspace where you have access to the pages and databases you want to import. You do not need admin access, but you do need permission to view the content you want to bring into Vantage.
  • A modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge). The OAuth flow opens a popup window, so make sure popups are not blocked for app.vantageos.tech.

Connect Notion in 6 steps

1

Open the Integrations page in Vantage

Log in to your Vantage workspace at app.vantageos.tech. In the left sidebar, click Settings, then select Integrations from the settings menu. This opens the integrations catalog where every available connector is listed, including Notion, Confluence, Google Docs, Jira, Linear, and dozens more.

2

Find and select Notion

In the integrations catalog, locate the Notion card. You can use the search bar at the top to filter by name. Click the Connect button on the card. Vantage displays a summary of the data it will access from Notion, including page content, database entries, and metadata. Review the summary before proceeding.

3

Authorize via Notion OAuth

Click Authorizeto open Notion's OAuth consent screen in a new window. Notion asks you to select the specific pages and databases you want to share with Vantage. This is a Notion-specific feature that gives you fine-grained control over what Vantage can access. Select the pages you want to import, then click Allow Access. You are redirected back to Vantage automatically. Your Notion password is never shared with Vantage. The entire flow uses Notion's official OAuth 2.0 implementation.

4

Select pages and databases to import

After authorization, Vantage lists every page and database you granted access to during the OAuth step. Each item is displayed with its title, type (page or database), and last edited date. Check the items you want to import into Vantage. You can select all of them or pick a subset. This selection is not permanent. You can change which pages Vantage imports later from the integration settings without disconnecting. If you need to add pages you did not share during OAuth, you can update the page access list from Notion's integration settings.

5

Configure import scope

Vantage shows a configuration panel with import options. Page content imports the full text and formatting of your Notion pages, including headings, lists, callouts, and embedded content. Database entries imports rows and properties from your Notion databases, preserving filters and sorts. Include child pages controls whether Vantage automatically imports sub-pages nested under your selected pages. Turning this on is recommended if you have deeply nested documentation structures. The defaults work well for most teams, so you can skip this step and adjust later.

6

Verify the connection

Vantage runs a test import and displays a sample of your Notion content on screen. You should see a page title, a snippet of content, and metadata like the last edited date. If the test passes, click Done to finish setup. Your Notion content begins importing in the background. Most workspaces finish initial import within a few minutes, though large knowledge bases with hundreds of pages may take longer. You will see a notification in Vantage when the import is complete and your Notion content is ready to use as context in decisions, PRDs, and feature evaluations.

Configuration options

After the initial setup, you can fine-tune how Notion and Vantage work together. All of these settings are accessible from Settings > Integrations > Notion in your Vantage workspace.

Import scope

Toggle page content and database entries on or off independently. You can also control whether child pages are automatically included when a parent page is selected.

Page selection

Add or remove Notion pages and databases from the import at any time. To share new pages with Vantage, update the page access list in Notion's integration settings, then refresh the selector in Vantage.

Sync frequency

Choose how often Vantage checks for changes in your Notion pages. Options are every 15 minutes, hourly (default), or daily. More frequent syncs keep your imported content fresher.

Content formatting

Control how Notion content is formatted when imported into Vantage. Options include preserving Notion formatting, converting to plain text, or using Vantage's default formatting style.

Database property mapping

Choose which Notion database properties to import. By default, all properties sync. You can exclude specific properties if they contain sensitive data or are not relevant to your decisions.

Notification preferences

Configure whether Vantage sends notifications when a sync completes, when import errors occur, or when Notion pages referenced in your decisions are updated.

Troubleshooting

Most connections complete without issues. If you run into a problem, check these common scenarios before reaching out to support.

Page permissions are too restrictive

During the Notion OAuth flow, you choose which pages to share with Vantage. If a page does not appear in the Vantage selector after connecting, it means you did not grant Vantage access to that page during authorization. To fix this, go to the missing page in Notion, click the three-dot menu in the top right, select "Connections," and add the Vantage integration. Alternatively, disconnect and reconnect the integration in Vantage and select the missing pages during the OAuth step.

Nested pages not appearing

By default, Vantage only imports the pages you explicitly selected. If you have a deeply nested page structure, child pages may not appear unless you enabled the "Include child pages" option during setup. Go to Settings > Integrations > Notion in Vantage and turn on the child pages toggle. Vantage will pick up nested pages on the next sync cycle. Note that the parent page must have been shared with Vantage during OAuth for its children to be accessible.

Database vs page import confusion

Notion treats databases and pages as different content types. A full-page database in Notion appears as a database in the Vantage selector, while an inline database inside a page is imported as part of the page content. If you want to import a database with its rows and properties, make sure you select it as a database in the Vantage selector, not just the page it sits on. For inline databases, importing the parent page will include the database content automatically.

OAuth popup is blocked

Your browser is blocking the Notion authorization popup. Allow popups for app.vantageos.tech in your browser settings, then click Connect again. In Chrome, look for the blocked-popup icon in the address bar. In Safari, go to Preferences > Websites > Pop-up Windows and set app.vantageos.tech to Allow.
