Notion Story Database
Create a database with columns: Title, Status (Backlog/Ready/In Progress/Done), Priority (P0-P3), Sprint (relation to Sprints database), Estimate (select: XS/S/M/L/XL), Assignee (person), and Due Date. Use Board view grouped by Status as your sprint board.
Minimal Story Format
Write stories in the Notion page body using a minimal format: one-line user story, 3-5 acceptance criteria as checkboxes, and optional technical notes. No formal sections. The goal is to write a story in under 5 minutes and have it be clear enough for an engineer to start.
Async Review
Tag the assignee in a Notion comment when the story is ready. The engineer reviews the story and marks it Ready if clear, or leaves a comment if they need clarification. This replaces synchronous grooming for small startup teams.
Linking Stories to PRDs
Use a Notion relation to link stories to the PRD database. This creates traceability without formal requirements management. Click through from the story to see the PRD context.
