User Story Template for Notion (2026)

Notion databases turn user stories into structured, searchable items with custom properties, relation links, and multiple views. This template sets up a User Story database in Notion with properties, page templates, and views for effective backlog management.

Use Notion page templates to ensure every story follows a consistent format across your team.

Template sections

4 sections covering the complete user story workflow.

01

Database Properties

Create a User Stories database with properties: Title, Story Points (number), Priority (select: P0/P1/P2/P3), Status (select: Backlog/Ready/In Progress/Review/Done), Sprint (relation to Sprints DB), Epic (relation to Epics DB), Assignee (person), and Created Date (date). Add rollup properties for sprint-level metrics.

02

Page Template

Create a database template for new stories. Pre-fill the page body with the user story format: As a / I want / So that, followed by sections for Acceptance Criteria (checklist), Design Links, Technical Notes, and Dependencies. Team members create stories using this template for consistency.

03

Views

Create multiple views: Board grouped by Status for sprint execution, Table sorted by Priority for planning, Gallery filtered by Assignee for individual work views, and Calendar for timeline-based planning. Each view serves a different workflow need.

04

Linked Views

Embed filtered views of the User Stories database on sprint pages, epic pages, and team pages. Each linked view shows only the relevant stories. Changes sync across all views because they share the same underlying database.
