FigmaVantage + Figma

How to Connect Figma to Vantage: Step-by-Step Guide

Connecting Figma to Vantage takes under two minutes. Once connected, your design files become part of your product decision context. Vantage indexes frames, components, and prototype flows from your selected Figma files, so you can reference specific designs inside PRDs, trace requirements back to visual deliverables, and keep your team aligned on what is being built and why. The integration uses Figma OAuth, so you never share your Figma password with Vantage. You control exactly which files and projects are indexed, what level of detail gets imported, and you can disconnect at any time without affecting your Figma workspace.

This guide walks you through the full setup: prerequisites, the six-step connection flow, configuration options, and troubleshooting. Whether you are importing a single file or indexing an entire team library, the process is the same.

Prerequisites

Before you start, make sure you have the following:

  • A Vantage account on any plan (Free, Pro at $19/seat/mo, or Business at $59/seat/mo). The Figma integration is available on all plans.
  • A Figma account with at least view access to the files you want to import. If you want to index all files across your organization, use an account with team-level or organization-level access.
  • A modern browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge). The Figma OAuth flow opens a popup window, so make sure popups are not blocked for app.vantageos.tech.

Connect Figma in 6 steps

1

Navigate to Settings and open Integrations

Log in to your Vantage workspace at app.vantageos.tech. In the left sidebar, click Settings, then select Integrations from the settings menu. This opens the integrations catalog where every available connector is listed, including Figma, Linear, Jira, GitHub, Slack, and Amplitude. Each integration card shows its current connection status and a brief description of what it brings into your Vantage workspace.

2

Click Connect Figma

In the integrations catalog, locate the Figma card. You can use the search bar at the top to filter by name. Click the Connect button on the card. Vantage displays a summary of the permissions it will request from Figma, including read access to your files, projects, teams, and components. Review these scopes before proceeding. The Figma integration is read-only, so Vantage will never modify your designs.

3

Authorize via Figma OAuth

Click Authorizeto open Figma's OAuth consent screen in a new window. Figma shows you the exact permissions Vantage is requesting. Click Allow Access to grant permission. You are redirected back to Vantage automatically once authorization completes. Your Figma password is never shared with Vantage. The entire flow uses industry-standard OAuth 2.0 tokens. You can revoke access at any time from your Figma account settings under Security > Personal Access Tokens and OAuth apps.

4

Select files and projects to import

After authorization, Vantage lists your Figma teams, projects, and individual files in a browsable tree view. You can select entire projects to import all files within them, or pick individual files for more targeted indexing. Personal drafts appear under a separate section. Use the search bar to quickly locate a specific file by name. This selection is not permanent. You can add or remove files later from the integration settings without disconnecting or re-authorizing.

5

Configure what to import

Vantage shows a configuration panel where you control what gets indexed from your Figma files. Frames imports top-level and nested frames, which represent screens, sections, and layouts in your designs. Components imports reusable design components and their variants, giving you a reference to your design system inside Vantage. Prototypes imports prototype flow connections so you can see user journey paths alongside your requirements. You can select all three or choose a subset. Most teams import everything and then filter within Vantage as needed. You also set the nesting depth for frames, which controls how deep into grouped layers Vantage indexes.

6

Verify the connection

Vantage runs a test import and displays the result on screen. You should see sample frames from one of your selected files appear with their names and page structure intact. If the test passes, click Done to finish setup. Your Figma data begins indexing in the background. Most files finish initial indexing within a few minutes. Larger files with hundreds of frames may take slightly longer. You will see a notification in Vantage when indexing is complete and your design data is ready to reference in decisions, PRDs, and deliverable tracking.

Configuration options

After the initial setup, you can fine-tune how Figma and Vantage work together. All of these settings are accessible from Settings > Integrations > Figma in your Vantage workspace.

Import types

Choose which element types to index: frames, components, prototypes, or any combination. You can change this at any time. Adding a new type triggers a rebuild of the index for your selected files.

Frame nesting depth

Control how deep Vantage goes into grouped and nested layers. A depth of 1 indexes only top-level frames. A depth of 3 (the default) captures most screen-level and section-level frames without over-indexing small UI elements.

Sync frequency

Choose how often Vantage checks for changes in your Figma files. Options are every hour (default), every 6 hours, or daily. More frequent polling catches design updates sooner but consumes more API quota.

File selection

Add or remove files from the index at any time. Newly added files index automatically. Removing a file stops indexing but does not delete previously indexed data from Vantage.

Component variant handling

Control whether Vantage indexes every variant of a component or only the default variant. Indexing all variants gives you full design system coverage. Indexing only defaults keeps your workspace leaner.

Thumbnail generation

Enable or disable automatic thumbnail generation for indexed frames. Thumbnails make it easier to identify designs visually when referencing them in PRDs. Thumbnails are generated from the Figma API and stored securely in Vantage.

Troubleshooting

Most connections complete without issues. If you run into a problem, check these common scenarios before reaching out to support.

OAuth popup is blocked or fails to load

Your browser is blocking the Figma authorization popup. Allow popups for app.vantageos.tech in your browser settings, then click Connect again. In Chrome, look for the blocked-popup icon in the address bar. In Safari, go to Preferences > Websites > Pop-up Windows and set app.vantageos.tech to Allow. If the popup loads but shows an error, try clearing your browser cache and cookies for figma.com, then retry.

Large files are slow to index or timing out

Figma files with hundreds of pages and thousands of frames take longer to index because the Figma API paginates large responses. If a file is timing out, try reducing the frame nesting depth in your configuration settings. You can also split large files by selecting individual pages instead of the entire file. Most files under 200 frames index in under a minute.

Team files not appearing in the file selector

Vantage can only see files your Figma account has access to. If you are on a Professional or Organization plan, make sure you are a member of the team that owns the files. If you are on the free Starter plan, only files you own or have been directly invited to will appear. Ask a team admin to invite you to the relevant projects, or have an admin connect the integration instead.

Components or prototypes not importing

Check your import configuration under Settings > Integrations > Figma. Make sure the "Components" or "Prototypes" toggle is enabled. If it is enabled but components still do not appear, verify that your Figma file actually contains published components (local components that are not published to a library may not surface through the API). For prototypes, ensure the file has at least one prototype flow defined with connected frames.
